During the last two years, a wide range of contemporary art installations has sprung up in the La Plaiv area (around S-chanf, Madulain, La Punt Chamues-ch and Zuoz).
This development is the result of a research project by the Zürich School of Art and Design’s Fine Arts Department in cooperation with the Zürich University’s Institute of Art History, the Plaiv region’s four villages’ Plaiv Economic Organization, and the Walter A. Bechtler Foundation for Art in Public Spaces. The project is closely linked to the Hotel Castell through Ruedi Bechtler.
The following installations for the project «Public Plaiv» were completed in the Hotel Castell:
- The rock water sauna and softly springy wooden terrace by Tadashi Kawamata.
- The «Red Bar» by Pipilotti Rist and Gabrielle Hächler.
- The texts on the Castell’s south façade by Lawrence Weiner.
- The installation «Circular Skyspace» by James Turrell.
