Origins: The Hotel Castell is constructed by Hermann Gilli according to plans by renowned St. Moritz architect Nicolaus Hartmann. On a natural terrace above Zuoz with a fantastic view, it is a resort hotel boasting top-modern therapy rooms. |

High times: After a crisis caused by the first World War, golden years begin in the Upper Engadine and the Hotel Castell. Regular guests including famous personalities such as the German crown prince and his family, author Stefan Zweig and Lord Templewood - wild parties are everyday events. The Castell is on a par with the Hotel Kulm in St.Moritz and the Hotel Waldhaus in Sils.
Giacomo Andrea Gilli suceeds his father, building the first heated pool in the canton Grisons as well as numerous hiking trails around the Castell. |

| 1929/1939 |
End of the golden period: The world economic crisis and the New York stock market crash end the «Golden Twenties». The Gilli family is forced by World War II to close and ultimately sell the Hotel Castell. |

| 1955 |
The Castell belongs to the Migros cooperative association. |

| 1961 |
The top floor and characteristic tower are destroyed in a fire. Shortly thereafter, the house is sold to Hotelplan to be used as a club hotel. |

| 1968 |
New blossoming: As a club hotel, the Castell flowers again with a record occupancy rate of 100% in 1971. Its excellent location and infrastructure make the Castell a popular destination for family vacations. This period comes to an end with the oil crisis in 1973. |

| 1983 |
The Castell is purchased and renovated for 3.5-million Swiss francs by the Migros subsidiary Horizonte, active in the international travel business. |

| 1989 |
Family Kunz from Bilten purchases the Castell and runs it as «Heidihotel». |
|
| 1996 |
New beginning: The Castell is now owned by the Castell Zuoz AG with Ruedi Bechtler from Herrliberg as principal shareholder and Manuela and Iwan Wirth of Galerie Hauser & Wirth Zürich as shareholders. |

| 2004 |
New opening: The new Hotel Castell is opened in December of 2004. With the new directors Bettina Plattner-Gerber and Richard Plattner, this imposing „sleeping beauty“ has become a modern and atmospheric hotel for anyone wanting to retreat and relax in surroundings invigorated by art and nature, and with endless options for activity. |
